Strictly Come Dancing 2021 will be missing couple Amy Dowden and Tom Fletcher when it returns on Saturday night. This comes after the pair tested positive for Covid-19 the day after their first performance on the Strictly dance floor.
However, now a source on the programme has called the incident a “Covid disaster waiting to happen”.
On Sunday, it was confirmed Amy and Tom had tested positive for the virus.
As a result, they are both self-isolating separately as they recover.
While Tom is feeling unwell, Amy has not got any symptoms.
This means they will not be appearing on this Saturday’s show.
If they test negative, it is expected that they will be back for Week Three of the series.
Ahead of their first performance on Strictly, Amy was touring the UK with her partner Tom.
The pair were in a “bubble” as she trained with him whenever he had a free moment when performing with McFly.
A Strictly source told the Daily Star how they felt this had increased their Covid “risk”.
They said: “However much you socially distance and try to stay safe, it’s still a risk.
“This was a Covid disaster waiting to happen.”
In response to the claim, the BBC has issued a statement to the publication.
A spokeswoman said: “Strictly Come Dancing production has, and will, continue to follow strict government guidelines to ensure the safety of all on the show.”
Both Tom and Amy have opened up on social media about their isolation.
Posting yesterday, Amy wrote to her 251,000 followers: “Unfortunately @tomfletcher and I have tested positive for Covid-19.
“I’m not suffering any symptoms but am now isolating at home.
“I have no doubt that over the next 10 days my mind will be going crazy with choreography ideas ready to get back on the strictly dance floor for the live show in week 3!(sic)
“Thank you for all of the support and good luck to all of the couples this week.
“I will be cheering you all on! @bbcstrictly.”
Tom posted a video on his own Instagram earlier today as he addressed also missing the last dates of his McFly nationwide tour.
In the short clip, the musician thanked fans for their messages and said he was feeling “fine”.
Alongside this, he penned: “It’s not always easy… Huge thanks to @tomabisgold for stepping in for me on these @mcflymusic shows.
“You’re smashing it dude. It’s not always easy but McFLY’s here forever…one way or another!
“Sending my best to all the @bbcstrictly team and looking forward to getting back on that dance floor with you @amy_dowden. X”
