Queen 'saddened' as Harry Legge-Bourke splits from his wife

EDEN CONFIDENTIAL: The Queen is ‘saddened’ as brother of William and Harry’s nanny Harry Legge-Bourke splits from his wife of 21 years, sparking fears of a big divorce bill

Harry Legge-Bourke is so close to the Royal Family that he helped carry the long train of the Queen’s ceremonial robe as her page of honour as a boy.

His sister, Tiggy, meanwhile, became Princes William and Harry’s beloved nanny.

Now, however, the Queen is, I am told, ‘saddened’ to learn that Legge-Bourke has separated from his wife of 21 years, Iona Maclean.

‘It’s terribly sad and has made Harry worry even more than before about the future of his ancestral estate,’ one of his friends tells me. ‘The divorce could be very expensive.’

Viewers of last year’s ITV documentary A Year In The Beacons watched former Welsh Guards Captain Legge-Bourke, who turns 50 this month, voice fears about how he could afford to maintain the pandemic-hit Glanusk Park estate near Crickhowell in the Brecon Beacons, South Wales.

The 16,000-acre estate has belonged to his family since 1826. ‘The last thing I want to do is be the one who did cock it up and lost the whole bloody lot,’ he admitted.

The Queen won’t be the only member of the Royal Family sorry to hear about Legge-Bourke, who has two children with Iona, 52. He’s a good friend of Princes William and Harry, and used to be a regular skiing companion of the future king.

He was criticised for allowing Wills and Harry to abseil down a 150 ft-high dam without safety lines or helmets the year after Princess Diana was killed in a road accident.

Prince Harry is godfather to Tiggy’s son Fred. And the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly returned the favour by asking Tiggy to be godmother to their son, Archie, at his Windsor christening in 2019.

Legge-Bourke’s mother, Shan, is a lady-in-waiting to Princess Anne, while Prince Charles stayed at Glanusk during his time at Aberystwyth University. ‘My grandmother knew the Queen during the war and she looked after him,’ Harry explained.

Legge-Bourke’s collection of more than 300 oak trees includes the Queen’s Avenue. ‘When the Queen came to stay in 2012, I asked would she like a wood planted in her name, or an avenue. In 100 years’ time, it will be magnificent,’ he explained.

The Legge-Bourkes declined to comment.

Wedding bells for Alice as ex courts Sienna

Archie Keswick, a scion of the Jardine Matheson dynasty which owns the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, enjoyed a passionate romance with Hollywood star Sienna Miller last summer.

Now, his ex-wife, Alice, has some exciting personal news of her own.

I hear former model Alice, 36, has got engaged to businessman Aidan Crawley, 38, a descendant of the last tsar of Russia.

Passionate: Archie Keswick and Sienna Miller

‘Alice is really happy — she never thought she’d be getting married again,’ one of her friends tells me. The interior designer has two daughters with Eton-educated Keswick, 41, whose family fortune is reputed to be £6.47 billion.

The pair separated in 2019. Her friend says: ‘They’re [Alice and Aidan] going to exchange vows in a register office this spring and then have a big celebration next year.’

It’s not clear if Keswick is still going out with Jude Law’s ex-fiancee Sienna, 40, who looks remarkably like Alice, as the actress was spotted with model Oli Green, 25, this month.

Outnumbered star Ramona Marquez, who came out as bisexual in 2020, has a new girlfriend.

The 20-year-old actress, who played relentlessly inquisitive schoolgirl Karen in the hit BBC comedy, has found love with photographer Emily Caiger.

Caiger took the pictures that appeared earlier this week of Marquez looking unrecognisable with red hair, tattoos and hairy legs.

Sharing more snaps taken by Caiger, she tells fans: ‘My fav pics from the shoot me and my girlfriend did. She’s so talented.’

Marquez used her contribution to the book Women Don’t Owe You Pretty, by Florence Given, to announce that she was bisexual.

(Very) modern manners

Ulrika Jonnson has discovered that modern dating can be a cruel business.

In a development that would have been unthinkable during her pin-up days in the 1990s, the television personality admits she has been stood up on dates — two or three times.

‘I was shocked,’ says Ulrika, 54. ‘It was definitely younger guys — maybe they lose their bottle.

‘I’m quite old-fashioned and believe in decent manners. The way people connect nowadays is a foreign concept,’ she adds. ‘It makes it easier to let someone down. You don’t have to look anyone in the eye — you can send a message.

‘There’s a whole different code of conduct online, and that’s been a steep learning curve.’

How Anna shares her bed with Wallis Simpson

Is this romantic or creepy? Biographer Anna Pasternak — who wrote The American Duchess: The Real Wallis Simpson — is to sleep under a bedspread beneath which the former Edward VIII and his wife used to canoodle.

Pasternak’s husband, Andrew Wallas, has bought her the Duchess of Windsor’s fabulous crepe de chine bedspread, embroidered with hearts, for a Valentine’s Day present.

‘Andrew was tipped off about this Canadian auction by [interior decorator] Nicky Haslam, who spotted it and thought I would love it,’ she tells me. ‘It’s very romantic because he knows how much I adore Wallis. The cover is still en route from Canada but I can’t wait to have it and sleep under it.’ Pasternak adds: ‘We watched the auction together online and I kept telling him to stop bidding, but he was determined to have it for me.’ He ended up paying more than £5,500.

It would have made an appropriate gift for the Duchess of Sussex, another fascinating American divorcee whose husband quit his royal role.

Feelgood musical Mamma Mia! has left one of its cast members down in the dumps. Kyle Turner, who appeared in the smash hit West End show, complained that he had been subjected to racial discrimination.

The actor claimed to have experienced stereotyped language during his audition, been asked to perform a disproportionate amount of choreography on his own and said he faced more criticism than other cast members.

‘The anxiety I faced during rehearsals was difficult to deal with,’ he said. The producers, Littlestar Services, didn’t uphold his complaint but said it would bring in ‘diversity training’.

This is no joke: fans who bought tickets to watch stand-up comics John Bishop and Jason Manford live have been left unamused after a string of shows were cancelled, leaving them out of pocket.

Organiser MB Promotions has gone bust and people who bought tickets to the Comedy In The Park events, which went for at least £85, won’t get their money back.

That’s because the original gigs, due to take place in 2021 but rescheduled owing to Covid, have been deemed too long ago for refunds to be valid.

Becks calls time on his £3m pub

David Beckham has thrown in the (bar) towel as a pub landlord.

I can reveal that club boss Piers Adam has taken over the former England captain’s trendy boozer, the Walmer Castle.

He was said to have paid £3 million nearly four years ago for the pub in Notting Hill, close to his £30 million West London home.

But now Adam, who ran Prince Harry and William’s favourite nightclub Mahiki, has stepped in to take control.

Adam took out a big loan last month against the lease to fund a makeover, which is now underway.

He stepped in to buy the 25-year lease for an unspecified amount.

Fans’ birthday cheer for Lewis

Homeland star Damian Lewis’s fans were determined to put a smile on his face as he marked his first birthday since his wife, Peaky Blinders actress Helen McCrory, died from breast cancer last April at the age of 52.

They baked him 51 cakes to mark his 51st birthday, but he jokingly swapped the candles on one creation so it looked as if he was still 15.

The actor says he was deeply ‘touched’ by the gesture.
