In response to my recent post, I have been deluged with e-mails from people who say they have an uncle named Joseph Smith. They claim they know this man and that his testimony is as strong as anyones. I can only conclude that theyre not quite speaking the truth. Now it must be said that we dont know everything about Joseph Smith, and many of his contemporaries did not have access to his full history, which he kept to himself. So it is not uncommon for us to believe things based on what we do know. What we do not know about Joseph is that he was a fraud. And because he was a fraud we need to understand why. That being said, the fact that he was accused of being a fraud does lend validity to some of the things people have alleged about him. It is a bit like a detective whose only detective work has shown him as a liar, but who also happens to have found the bodies of the victims they are investigating. Im not going to try to convince you of my thesis, but rather to bring this essay to a close. My aim is to illustrate that Joseph Smith had a fraud in his past. To illustrate that he had been telling lies about his past, so that he could deceive others. Im not trying to convince you that hes an atheist. Im not even trying to convince you that Im right. Im just trying to show that there is an element of deceit in his life, that has been going on for some time, and that he was a fraud. Goodbye, and thanks for taking the time to read my ramblings. In one of the more ironic instances, the International Business Times reports that a Canadian newspaper has decided to stop.
