Married At First Sight's Shareen Geers has revealed she's been left in tears and too afraid to venture out of her own home because of vile trolls.

The mum-of-three, 47, appeared on the fifth series of the E4 show to find someone to spend the rest of her life with and was seen tying the knot with David, 56, from Solihull. The programme showed the pair going on their honeymoon and living together just as the coronavirus lockdown hit the country.

However, Shareen didn't count on the onslaught of negative comments and trolls she would come across after attempting to find her happily ever after on the show.

Speaking to Wales Online, the reality star explained that the horrific comments posted by trolls on social media left her feeling too scared to leave her house for fear of her safety.

Beyond this though, Shareen said that what hurt the most were people calling her an "embarrassment to her daughters".

"The ones that really hurt the most were calling me an embarrassment as a mother and how ashamed my daughters must be to have me as a mum," she said.

"Luckily I have given my daughters the tools to understand these comments are from strangers and to not take them to heart, but disregarding my sole purpose in life to be the best mum I can be broke me for a couple of days."

Shareen continued: "After two days of crying I was actually feeling scared of leaving the house as I was concerned I would receive abuse whilst out running or shopping."

Fans of the show took to Twitter to attack the mum, as one person said: "Into 2nd episode and im not liking shareen, its becoming clear why she has never married, no compromise, David deserves so much better #MarriedAtFirstSightuk". [sic]

Another wrote: "Binge of season 5 underway, Shereen is the most annoying person. Total hypocrite in every sense and soooo negative. David needs to run, seems a genuine kind hearted gent #MarriedAtFirstSightuk". [sic]

While a third added: "David run for the hills mate you can do much better Shareen is so self centred and negative #MarriedAtFirstSightuk no man will ever live up to her standards". [sic]

The reality star, who is from Llanelli, went on to explain that she knew the risks of opening herself up to the public for criticism, but had no idea she would suffer online abuse to this extent.

Where are the stars of Love Island 2015 now including Jon Clark and Hannah Elizabeth?

She added: "I understood by embarking on this journey in the public eye you open the doors to scrutiny but to be judged in such a personal manner was incredibly hurtful.

"The extent of the toxic comments took me aback. As I am not a Twitter user I was completely shocked how vocal some people can be – directly attacking a person's personality without the further thought of how it would make that person feel."

Since the show ended, David revealed he and Shareen are no longer together as he responded to a Twitter comment.

A fan wrote: "Shareen is being trolled by cyber bullies far too much for being true to herself, it pains us so much to see it. Kindness is for all. Unfortunately they were just not a match, end of. Both are lovely kind people with their own beliefs & mindset."

David responded: "Totally agree, sad we didn’t better connect but thats life and the risk we accepted coming into this.

"Shareen has many wonderful characteristics & is a kind, positive person, an amazing mother with a good soul. She was simply hoping for a more spiritual not a logic thinker I guess."
