Vicky ‑ DI Kate Fleming in the hit BBC drama ‑ cut the ribbon to start a walk raising money for dementia research. She was taking part in memory of her gran Iris, who died of dementia in 2015.

Vicky has been involved in the Alzheimer’s Society’s Nottingham Memory Walk for more than a decade.

In 2019, she talked about caring for Iris in a poignant documentary, Our Dementia Choir. An Alzheimer’s Society ambassador, she urged others to join Memory Walks across the country.

Meanwhile, care residents can tickle the ivories to see if music can enrich the lives of dementia sufferers. The Light Up My Life study uses pianos with light up keys.

BBC Radio 6 presenter Lauren Laverne, a Music for Dementia ambassador, said: “Music has the power of improving the wellbeing of people living with dementia. it could help enable them to feel independent once again.”
