Lesley Joseph, who played Dorien Green in Birds of a Feather, has confirmed the series has ended after 32 years. It comes after the actress was joined by her pal and co-star Linda Robson ifor the British sitcom’s Christmas special.
The show returned for a festive comeback without Pauline Quirke, whose character was written out as she was “stuck on a COVID cruise”.
The 75-year-old has since spoken out about the popular show amid rumours of a rift with Pauline.
Lesley has shut down the claims as she squashed rumours of a rift.
The small-screen star hinted that another reason behind the end of the show was due to her weight.
Addressing Birds of a Feather, Lesley commented: “I don’t think it’s going to happen again to be absolutely honest.
“I think after 32 years, I need to do other things. Keeping your weight down to play Dorien is not easy.”
The star continued: “She has to be an absolutely skinny bean and it’s not easy to lose the weight, especially when you’ve had Victoria sponge the whole of lockdown.
“As Dorien you could never eat that. But it’s coming off now. I’ve just lost 10 pounds.”
The TV star also spoke about her friendship with Pauline and added she “loves her”.
“I missed Pauline a lot…I love her,” Lesley added to The Mirror.
Despite attracting an audience of 7.9 million, ITV decided against ordering more episodes.
Birds Of A Feather, which tells the story of two sisters whose husbands are jailed for armed robbery, ran for nine series on the BBC between 1989 and 1998 and was revived by ITV in 2014.

Linda Robson, who also starred on the show, recently denied claims of a falling out with Pauline.
It was reported that the pair had fallen out after 50 years of friendship, which resulted in the latter refusing to take part in the classic sitcom’s 30th anniversary show in 2019.
Speaking on Good Morning Britain, explained that the two have not had a falling out and added that Pauline simply no longer wants to be an actress.
Linda said: “I haven’t had a falling out with Pauline. She just does not want to act anymore.”
She continued: “Because we did a Christmas special – Pauline doesn’t want to act anymore.
“She wants to concentrate on her academy. That’s all.”
Linda added: “There’s been no falling out whatsoever.”
While Birds of a Feather was off-air, Pauline set up The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts.
