Emmerdale actor Jonny McPherson, 39, has shared a sweet post dedicated to his co-star Mimi Slinger, 18, who plays his on-screen daughter Leanna Cavanagh, after her exit from the ITV soap. The Dr Liam Cavanagh star shared a video posted by Emmerdale’s official Twitter account, which showed Mimi giving a goodbye message to viewers.

Jonny wrote in view of his 7,144 followers last night: “Darling girl.

“A beautiful soul and a brilliant actress who I loved working every minute with.

“Didn’t she do a wonderful job tonight? Just about as proud as a fake dad can possibly be.

“I’ll miss her terribly but can’t wait to see where her talents take her.

“Go get em Mimi,” the soap star concluded.

In the video Jonny shared, Mimi bid farewell to the character she had been playing since her character’s debut in 2018.

In the clip, Mimi says: “Hi guys, I just wanted to say a BIG thank you to all of you who have watched and supported Leanna’s time in the village.

“Sadly it’s come to quite a gory end, but I have made the most fantastic memories, had the BEST time and, honestly, so grateful to say I was a part of the Emmerdale family.

“I have loved it from start to finish and, again, thank you guys so, so much for watching.”

It comes after Mimi’s character Leanna was killed in Thursday’s episode by Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu).

Leanna had found evidence of Meena framing Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) for stealing the Emmerdale Pride collection money.

Leanna also discovered Meena was connected to the suspected “foul play” in the death of Meena’s late friend Nadine.

Viewers watched the pair get into a dramatic confrontation on the bridge in the village.

During their battle, Leanna promised to keep Meena’s secrets safe.

However, Meena didn’t believe Leanna’s claims and grabbed her by the throat before throwing her to her death on the rocks underneath the bridge.

Fans took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Mimi’s last scenes as Leanna.

One person wrote: “I’m so sad that Leanna had died in arms of killer Meena. I was just settling into Leanna’s change in character recently and I loved her relationship with Jacob as well. It’s so sad. Well done to producer Kate Brooks and all involved in tonight’s episodes. Sensational stuff.”

Another added: “She’s been amazing; tonight’s episodes have been absolutely surreal, brilliant stuff and congratulations to everyone involved.”

A third viewer penned: “I knew it! Aw sorry to see you go, and hope to see you back on telly somewhere soon. Good luck for the future and I’m sure your career ahead will be amazing.”

A fourth commented: “What a shame!! Leanna was just starting to become a great character! Fantastic episode!! We will miss you and wish you all the very best in whatever you do next – we’ll look out for you x.”

Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV and all of the week’s episodes are currently available on ITV Hub.
