Jennifer Garner’s friends reportedly aren’t happy about Ben Affleck’s recent interview on Howard Stern, where he implied that he’d still be drinking if he was married to her. While Ben has since explained that his comments were misconstrued and he has a ton of love and respect for Jen, the interview got a lot of backlash (including from J.Lo, apparently).
A source who knows both Ben and Jennifer tells Page Six in part that “It’s disgusting. Jen has been the only one picking him up time and time again,” and that “Jen stood by him because she loves him. This is the mother of his children.”
Another source who knows Ben told the outlet that “I do think that the quotes have been taken out of context, if you actually listen to the interview he says everything in a different context. He didn’t need to act like he was talking to his shrink.”
In case you missed it, Ben told Howard Stern, “I’d probably still be drinking. It’s part of why I started drinking…because I was trapped. I was like, ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy, what do I do?’ What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”
He addressed the interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, saying people had “taken the conversation” and “made it seem as if I was doing the exact opposite of what I said.”
“I had gone on and said how much we respect each other and cared about each other and cared about our kids and put them first and went through our stuff,” Ben explained. “And they said that I blamed my ex-wife for my alcoholism and that I was trapped and just made me out to be the worst, most insensitive, stupid awful guy….That’s not true. I don’t believe that. It’s the exact opposite of who I am, what I believe. I would never want my kids to think I would ever say a bad word about their mom.”
