Idris Elba has been revealed as the bookies’ latest favourite to become the new James Bond.
The 49 year old Luther actor has long been in the running to take on the mantle of 007 and replace Daniel Craig, 53, as MI6’s most iconic spy.
But the latest odds seem to hint the fan-favourite Hollywood star, who is married to Sabrina Dhowre, could have the role in the bag.
It comes following 61 year old executive producer Barbara Broccoli shared public support for the actor.
As a result, Coral boss John Hill revealed Idris’s odds have been dramatically slashed and punters are rushing to put their money on the star’s impending announcement.
The star has gone from odds of an encouraging 12-1 to sitting at 6-1 – an impressive move in recent weeks.
And now that buzz surrounding Daniel’s last film No Time To Die is starting to die down, it leaves room for producers to finally break the news on their newest leading man.
"It is no surprise that Bond producers are discussing Idris Elba as a possible candidate to replace Daniel Craig as the next 007,” the Coral representative told The Mirror.
“We have seen strong support for the Luther actor in our betting over the last 24 hours, and we have reacted by slashing his odds in half,” John added.
While Bond fans continue to frantically speculate over exactly who will nab the coveted spy part, there are still a number of strong contenders to give Idris a run for his money.
Bridgerton newcomer Rege-Jean Page is a favourite for the role, while steady competition remains from James Norton and Outlander hunk Sam Heughan.
Bodyguard star Richard Madden and Marvel's Tom Hiddleston are also favourites, while Henry Cavill has been a contender for a while.
The star even spoke out about the possibility on the Graham Norton Show recently, as he said he understood that Barbara Broccoli and her brother and fellow Eon Productions boss Michael G. Wilson are still only in early discussions with MGM.

He even went as far as to say that he understand the producers don’t yet “have a list” of names, despite Barbara recently admitting that Idris had come up in conversation for the part.
Speaking on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, she revealed: "Well, we know Idris, we're friends with him, and he's a magnificent actor.
"And, you know, it's been part of the conversation but it's always difficult to have the conversation when you have someone in the seat."
