Olly Murs, 37, has lifted the lid on his relationship with his estranged twin brother, Ben, and how lockdown has helped him reflect on his career. Speaking about his fallout with Ben, the Troublemaker singer admitted he no longer has a way to contact his brother.

The pair’s rift began when Olly missed his twin brother’s wedding in 2009 to perform in the live semi-finals of The X Factor.

Now, Olly has looked back on his former relationship with his brother in an interview with The Sun’s Fabulous Magazine, sharing a heartbreaking update on his hopes to repair their bond.

He said: “No, we haven’t spoken. It’s just the same.

“I would have [reached out to him over lockdown] but I don’t have an address for him.

“I don’t have a way to contact him and he doesn’t have contact with me.”

Olly previously shared his desire to heal the rift between himself and Ben after getting emotional on The Voice in 2020 when twins Katie and Aofie performed together, as they reminded him of his relationship with his own twin brother.

However, lockdown was also an opportunity for Olly to focus on his career and revise his 13 years in show business.

He continued: “Lockdown was a great time to reflect on my career.

“I’m very lucky to have been in this industry for 13 years now. I’ve sold over 12 million records, I’ve had four number 1s. I’ve done TV shows. I’ve been a coach on The Voice.

“That’s a massive achievement. It is more than I ever expected – I genuinely thought I had six months then I would be back to working in recruitment.”

Ben, who now goes by his wife’s surname Hart, previously hit out at his brother, branding him a “self-obsessed sell out”.

In an interview with the now-defunct News of the World a year after his wedding, Ben said he never wanted to speak to Olly again.

He explained: “Something was missing and that was Olly.

“It’s clear people like Simon Cowell are more important to him than me.

“He’s a self-absorbed sell-out. Our family was torn apart because of The X Factor.

“Things have got to the point where if I have children, I don’t even want Olly to meet them.

“I watch my brother – the same person I shared a womb with – on TV now and it’s like I don’t even know who he is.”

But Olly then claimed in a 2017 interview The Sunday Times Magazine that the problems between him and Ben dated back to their childhood.

He said: “I don’t speak to my twin brother and that’s been extremely difficult.

“Long before X Factor there were problems between Ben and his girlfriend and our family.

“His wedding was his excuse for not having me in his life anymore… I don’t think she ever liked us as a family.”
