This Morning presenter Holly Willoughby has addressed new reports of a “rift” between her and her co-host and friend, Phillip Schofield. In a new interview, the mother-of-three, 40, spoke about working five days a week for hours at a time with Phillip, who she has presented the show with for over a decade.

I think you can only do that with a friend, day in, day out

Candidly speaking about whether their close-knit relationship had been fractured, Holly put rumours of a “rift” to rest.

Addressing filming the popular daytime ITV show with Phil, she said: “It is two and a half hours of live telly.

“If you were to do that amount of live telly with someone who drove you nuts, wound you up, annoyed you in any way…

“Well, I think you can only do that with a friend, day in, day out,” she told Grazia magazine.

The duo have been friends for over 16 years and first started working together on Dancing on Ice in 2006.

Three years later, Holly joined Phillip to present This Morning.

Phillip has previously credited Holly with being a major support to him after he came as out as gay two years ago on live TV.

Following the moment, she told her 7.5 million Instagram fans: “Never been more proud of my friend than I am today.”

However, despite their close knit relationship, it was revealed earlier this month that Holly is planning to take some time away from Phillip and her This Morning presenting responsibilities.

It has been confirmed that the star will be taking a two-week break from the ITV show to present Wim Hof’s Superstar Survival at the BBC alongside comedian Lee Mack.

Sources close to the 40-year-old have claimed this exciting new opportunity for Holly, who has plans to carry out more mainstream solo projects following her success on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

Holly is set to join Lee Mack and Wim ‘The Iceman’ Hof for the new BBC show.

The programme sees celebrities embark on a journey of self-improvement and face a “unique test of mental strength like no other”.

Despite the blonde-haired beauty leaving Phillip for a couple of weeks to film the highly-anticipated show, she will still fly back to the UK at weekends to film ITV’s Dancing On Ice with him.

Sources close to the star have claimed Holly’s stint on I’m A Celebrity alongside Declan Donnelly in Ant McPartlin’s absence in 2018 has given her the courage she needed to embark on solo projects.

“Holly loved I’m a Celeb so much it gave her the confidence to strike out on her own and do more mainstream solo TV projects,” a source informed the Sun.

“Holly did an excellent job filling in for Ant and was one of the highlights of the show that year.

“She has high career ambitions and is starting the year as she means to go on,” they added.

However, despite embarking on projects away from Phillip and ITV, the source added that Holly has no plans to leave.

There has been speculation Holly might quit her This Morning role for some time – but she has denied the claims.
