Future Queen consort Camilla beams in regal new portrait marking 75th birthday

An official portrait of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, has been released to mark her 75th birthday.

Camilla, who recently celebrated 160 years of Battersea Dogs and Cats home with Amanda Holden, can be seen looking looking relaxed and smiling in the image released for her milestone anniversary, which she is set to celebrate on Sunday 17 July.

In the photograph, the future Queen Consort wears a stunning blue floral dress by Sophie Dundas and can be seen sitting at a garden table with flowers and plants in the background.

A tea cup and saucer sits before her alongside a bowl of peaches in the snap.

Camilla, who recently praised her daughter in law Kate Middleton for her special talent, guest edited the latest edition of Country Life magazine and her son, food writer Tom Parker Bowles, who penned a paean to the fruit – the essential ingredient in one of his mother’s favourite desserts peach melba.

Mr Parker Bowles writes: “My mother is a keen grower of white peaches (the subject of this month’s column was very much her idea) and they certainly don’t want for attention.”

The picture was taken last month in the gardens of Raymill, Camilla’s retreat in Lacock, Wiltshire, where the photographed peaches were grown.

She bought the six-bedroom property, 17 miles from the Prince of Wales’ Highgrove home, after her divorce from Andrew Parker Bowles in the mid 1990s.

Clarence House has confirmed that Camilla will be celebrating the milestone with a small family dinner, which will most likely be hosted by her husband Prince Charles, 73, at Highgrove.

Camilla’s daughter Laura Lopes and son are expected along with her younger sister Annabel Elliot.

Earlier this year, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II used her Plaitnum Jubilee speech to back Camilla one day becoming Queen.

Camilla and Charles have been married for 17 years and are thought to have begun the romantic relationship while Charles was still married to the late Princess Diana.

Despite their controversial start, the Queen has said that Camilla becoming ‘Queen Consort’ is her “sincere wish”.

A ‘Queen Consort’ is the wife of the reigning King and, with this title, Camilla will share Charles’ social rank and status.

In normal circumstances, the wife of the King would become Queen but, because of uncertainty about public opinion of Camilla, it was thought the she would be referred to as ‘Princess Consort’ when Charles took the throne.

The Queen has since shut down these reports, and confirmed what Camilla’s official title will be.

She said in a written message: “I would like to express my thanks to you all for your support. I remain eternally grateful for, and humbled by, the loyalty and affection that you continue to give me.

“And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when that time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service.”
