The AACAs news release notes that the Muslim community is also concerned about a proposal by Assemblyman Chris Holden to make it illegal for mosques in California to show the video clip titled Innocence of Muslims that has caused the international outrage. He is proposing to make certain kinds of video footage illegal in California. One example given was an interview a woman gave to a filmmaker who was trying to investigate claims of a fraud scheme in the mosque, Suleiman said. The AACA said it is concerned about Holdens proposal because of its connection to Islam and the possibility that some of those who see the video will be attacked. We dont really know if his intent is to make sure no other copy of this video is ever made, or if he knows that his proposal will result in hatred. Were not sure, we just know that our fears are real, Suleiman said. The group is also concerned about a similar proposal by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, D-San Diego. Gonzalez has yet to comment on the proposal, but AACA is asking her to withdraw it. It is important to note that this proposal would also impact Christian churches, so the impact would be worse for all religions, Suleiman said.
