Craig Charles, 56, is returning to screens tonight in the new episode of Britain’s Brightest Celebrity Family. He’ll be appearing alongside his family in the show and the actor has previously admitted they gave him a “reason to get better” during tough times.

Craig has previously addressed struggling with drug addiction and in particular, a time he was pictured taking drugs in 2006.

The Red Dwarf actor said this was “one of the lowest points of his life” but wife Jackie was there to support him.

Speaking on John Bishop In Conversation back in 2017, the star emotionally spoke about this.

He said: “I was dead lucky that I had a wife, Jackie, who I adore and adores me.

“I had kids who know what I’m really like, and I had a reason to get better, if you know what I mean.”

“I had a job that I loved and I had enough people who knew what I was like to say, let’s care about him, let’s get him well, rather than let’s sack him.”

He then spoke a bit more about how he’d recently lost his parents at the time as well.

Craig continued: “Do you know what, it was me repeating the same old behaviour again.

“When me Mum died I got into drugs; when me Dad died, I did again.

“And it was just a case of… I was like stuck in this little flat in Manchester missing my family, working like 14 hours a day, then travelling vast amounts of motorways all the time like that.

“So you know, it was just a way of coping like.

“I’m dead addictive. You know, you’ve got positive and you’ve got negative addictions, haven’t you?

“So like I am now addicted to like positive addictions, you know. Like I work a lot; I love funk and soul, I get obsessive about it.”

Craig and his journalist wife Jackie Fleming have been married since 1999.

They have two children together, called Anna Jo and Nellie.

The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! also has one child named Jack from his first marriage.

He was wed to actor Cathy Tyson from 1984 until 1989.

Craig will be appearing with his family in tonight’s edition of Britain’s Brightest Celebrity Family on ITV.

Hosted by The Chase presenter Anne Hegerty, the show sees contestants trying to win £25,000 for their chosen charities.

Craig will be up against EastEnders star Rita Simons in the show, trying their luck to ace the general knowledge rounds.
