Carol Vorderman was woken up by people letting off fireworks near her house last night. The Countdown legend immediately assumed that it was a romantic gesture ahead of Valentine’s Day, and then realised how lucky she was that it was something “much worse”.

Carol wrote online, in view of her 456,400 followers: “I was woken last night by someone letting off fireworks right outside my house.

“I live near a landmark in Bristol,” she explained.

“I lay still and thought well it’s some lad showing off to his girlfriend and good for him, I like people being happy, it’s nearly Valentine’s.

“And then I thought…”

“Then I thought of the people who’d lived in my old house over the years, for whom sounds like that would have meant much worse, including devastating bomb raids in the last war…” Carol added.

The TV and Radio star went on to reveal that she realised how lucky she was not to have to live with the threat of bomb raids.

“And I fell back asleep being thankful and knowing just how lucky I am…” she wrote.

Many took to the comments section of her post to share their thoughts on the matter.

“Very True Carol. It must have been terrifying,” one social media user wrote.

“I agree Carol. My mother as a young woman had to push her bike through the devastation to get to work each day.

“When I asked her about it she would only say she kept her eyes straight ahead and kept walking. She made parachutes for the soldiers,” another added.

A third person warned about unwanted thoughts in the early hours of the night: “Y’see? That’s the problem… Too much thoughting in the early hours.”(Sic)

Other fans pointed out the most likely reason for the fireworks display.

“It could be Valentines, or Chinese New Year… or someone really excited about pancake day!” one user offered.

“Chinese New year I think, seen quite a few comments about fireworks,” another added.

“Think I’ll pick some fireworks up to celebrate Wales beating Scotland later,” a third person added, referring to the Six Nations Rugby game between Scotland and Wales which takes place today.

Ruby fan Carol, is already ready for the match, according to her most recent Twitter post.

She completed her figure-hugging all black ensemble with Welsh Rugby jumper.

“Properly dressed now…” the 60-year-old told her followers.

“COME ON CYMRU #SCOVWAL ⁦@WelshRugbyUnion,” she added.
