BETHLEHEM, Maan, Israeli forces on Friday confiscated Palestinian olive groves and threatened to destroy two houses in the village of Burin near Nablus in the southern occupied West Bank, witnesses told Maan. A Maan correspondent said dozens of Israeli soldiers raided the village and warned that the houses would be demolished. Burin is situated in Area C of the West Bank, under full Israeli military and civil control despite the presence of several olive groves within its bounds. Two houses in the village were also confiscated by an Israeli military bulldozer and Israels Civil Administration for being built without a construction permit. Burin has long been a focal point of Israeli land confiscation efforts, with the village itself being one of seven Palestinian villages and towns in Area C that suffered severe restrictions on Palestinian movement. The land confiscation policies in Area C are often characterized by severe human rights violations and environmental destruction. In the occupied West Bank where Israel has full control over all aspects of life over 300,000 Palestinians remain in Area C, with roughly one-third living under military and collective security control. Settlements built since the 1967 Six-Day War have expanded into Area C, taking up more than 40 percent of Palestinian land and water resources. Israel occupied the Palestinian territory of Palestine during a 50-day war in 1967, before gaining full diplomatic and military control of it in 1994. In 2014, according to the latest data released by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, there were some 1,923 dunams, approximately 1. 4 square kilometers, of land and water resources in the occupied West Bank, the vast majority of which were under the full or partial Israeli military and civil control. In addition, as many as 7,700 Jewish-only settlement outposts were established in Area C, though Israeli authorities have so far failed to evacuate or dismantle such outposts. Last March after a decade of Israeli military offensives in the occupied West Bank the UNs economic and social affairs committee approved a resolution calling on Israel to reverse its land grab policies, but the Israeli government has so far refused to do so. In June 2015, the Israeli government pledged to implement the UN-proposed draft declaration on the future status of the occupied Palestinian territories, but it has failed to do so. While the declaration calls for an immediate and complete end to all Israeli settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territory, the Israeli government has repeatedly said that such a plan would have no impact.
