With the news that the Detroit Red Wings have lost Pavel Datsyuk for the season, they have lost another pillar of their lineup. Its not just the fact that hes not there to play in the playoffs, but the fact that his absence will most likely be felt in the final weeks of the regular season. And while the Wings have a number of options as they continue to search for potential replacements for Datsyuk, the Detroit Red Wings have also been linked to center Brad Richards of the New York Rangers. The Red Wings currently hold the 13th seed in the Eastern Conference, and the next few games at this point are to determine which playoff spot theyll be competing for. The Red Wings currently sit just six points out of the final wild card spot, with a game in hand, with four games in hand on the Pittsburgh Penguins, and with a game in hand on the Washington Capitals. With the playoffs officially officially out of the question, the Red Wings may be looking to trade their remaining players so they can acquire more talent before the deadline, or they may be looking to move young players that might have limited NHL futures as they look to improve the team. While it would seem that the Red Wings are most likely looking to trade their draft picks, prospects and young players, they have other options. The Detroit Red Wings may be looking to deal their captain, Henrik Zetterberg. Henrik Zetterbergs contract is scheduled to expire after the season, June 30 and with a few additions to the Red Wings roster now that they have a few NHL roster players up, the Wings may look to move on from Zetterberg and see if there is more room to add to the roster this summer. Henrik Zetterberg is still under contract through the 2013-14 season, so despite his lack of production and age, he is still under contract. With that said, if the Red Wings were to move Zetterberg now, they would most likely have to part with a decent prospect in return. If the Wings made the trade, the main priority would be to replace Zetterbergs production in the lineup. With that said, if they are looking to make more than that move, they could look to trade for a potential replacement. With the emergence of Dylan Larkin, Anthony Mantha and Andreas Athanasiou making an impact this season, the Wings are likely looking for more young players to help them take the next step. One player with a lot of upside is Brad Richards. Richards has been on the trade block before, but never quite seemed to hit the market. Now that hes been a healthy scratch for most of the season for the New York Rangers, however, you could see where the Rangers are thinking. Last time the Wings traded for a center, he was no longer in.
