Amber Heard says she still loved Johnny Depp very much despite claims he tried to kill her

Amber Heard has claimed that she still "loved" her husband Johnny Depp "very much", despite alleging that the Hollywood superstar "tried to kill her".

The hugely-popular actor is in the middle of a court battle against his ex-wife, 36, following claims she made against him that he was abusive during their marriage, which lasted less than two years.

In 2017, Heard, who recently made a claim about why her ex-husband won't look at her in the courtroom, filed for divorce and also obtained a temporary restraining order after accusing Depp of hitting her. The actress later withdrew her claim, and the former couple agreed to a $7million divorce settlement in January 2017.

Heard's latest claims come in the middle of their highly-publicised court battle in the US state of Virginia.

Being grilled by 58 year old Depp's lawyer Camille Vasquez during cross-examination on the stand, Heard told the Fairfax County Courthouse how despite being "scared" of her ex husband, she had also "loved him very much".

Vasquez quizzed the defendant about hers and Depp's fight during their trip to Australia that allegedly took place in 2015.

While Depp previously testified on the stand that his ex-wife had thrown a vodka bottle at him – causing the glass to sever the tip of his finger off – Heard has denied the claim.

Instead she launched her own claim that the Pirates of the Caribbean actor had sustained the injury by smashing a phone that was mounted on the wall of their apartment while high on drugs.

"I didn’t assault Johnny in Australia. I didn’t assault Johnny ever," Heard told the court on Tuesday.

Vasquez then asked Heard if she'd been scared of her husband during the time of their fight.

The Aquaman star replied: "I have a mixed relationship with Johnny — one in which I'm scared, one in which I love him very much.

"This is a man who tried to kill me, of course it’s scary," she continued.

"He’s also my husband," an emotional Heard added.

Depp is suing his ex-wife for defamation for $50million following an op-ed piece she co-wrote for The Washington Post in 2018.

Heard stated she was a victim of domestic abuse in the article, but didn't name her ex-husband.

Johnny Depp stringently denies any and all claims of domestic abuse from Heard, who is counter-suing her former partner for $100million.

The trial is expected to conclude this week, with the result being announced at a later date.
