The One Show presenters Alex Jones, 44, and Jermaine Jenas, 38, appeared on tonight’s offering. The pair were joined in the studio by former politician Gyles Brandreth, 73, and comedian Romesh Ranganathan, 44.
The latter made a candid admission during the broadcast as he addressed the Royal Family.
It comes after Gyles excitedly opened up about the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee next month which will mark the monarch’s 70th year of service.
Alex probed Romesh about the British monarchy as she revealed his mum, Shanthi Ranganathan is a big “royalist”.
It comes as the stand-up comic detailed his time presenting the Royal Variety Performance alongside Rob Beckett in 2019.
“Romesh, your mum will be excited [about the Jubilee]. She’s a big royalist,” Alex commented.
The TV personality replied: “Yes, she is a big royalist.”
The One Show presenter went on: “So, you have done the Royal Variety Show. You’ve been to the odd football match with the princes.
“Your mum must have been super proud. Was she a bit nervous?”
“She was very nervous,” Romesh replied. “When I hosted the Royal Variety Show and when I performed, she was just very, very nervous.”
He added: “She was worried about me offending the Royal Family.”
The on-screen star admitted that his mum pleaded with him not to make jokes about the royals.
“She said, ‘Romesh, please be on your best behaviour,'” he recalled.

The comic added: “She genuinely thought that if I offended the [Royal Family] that we would get deported or something. She was worried about it.”
Gyles interjected: “Can I just say, that I’ve met his mum and she’s nothing like this.”
Alex agreed with the broadcaster, as she reacted to Romesh’s comment.
She chimed: “Your mum’s lovely.”
Gyles cheekily scolded: “Your mum is nothing like this. She’s the most normal, decent, straightforward person that I’ve ever come across.
“You’re making her into this national caricature.”
Romesh laughed off Gyles’ remark as he joked that he was trying to get her more TV work.
The comedian hosted the annual royal event alongside his long-standing friend Rob two years ago, making the pair the first comedic pair at the helm in over 30 years, since Ronnie Corbett and Bruce Forsyth in 1988.
The One Show airs weekdays on BBC One at 7pm.
