A small plane crashed into an apartment building in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Hazelwood after striking a power line, injuring six people, including two that are in critical condition, the National Transportation Safety Board said. The plane, a Piper PA-28, was on its final approach to Allegheny International Airport, about 35 miles southeast of Pittsburgh, when it clipped a power pole and went down outside the Hazelwood apartments, the NTSB said. The flight was on routine training, but one of the pilots in the aircraft, Capt. Thomas Stiles, was sustained traumatic injuries as a result of this accident, the NTSB said in a news release. There was no evidence that drugs or alcohol played a role, the NTSB said. It looks like this aircraft went directly down on the power line and that was the problem, said NTSB investigator Ron Hartman, who was on the scene. The crash site is not far from a runway, so I think were talking about very close contact of the aircraft with the ground, Hartman said. It looks like the power line was clipped right there by the pilot, and the aircraft just went down.
